President Biden extends executive order that declares Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship as a threat to U.S. security

This Thursday the President of the United States, Joe Biden, announced the extension for one more year of the executive order that declares Venezuela, under the usurpation of powers by dictator Nicolás Maduro, as a threat to the United States.

The U.S. president pointed out that Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship continues to represent an unusual and extraordinary threat to national security and foreign policy.

“I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13692 regarding the situation in Venezuela,” President Biden said in a letter sent from the White House.

Venezuela has been considered a threat to the security of the United States since 2015, by executive order of then President Barack Obama.

This process was continued by former President Donald Trump, who maintained a firm policy of sanctions and embargoes against high-ranking officials of Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship and his international accomplices.
