Chevron Corp's first cargo of Venezuelan crude under a U.S. license received in November has arrived from a ship-to-ship transfer hub near Aruba to its Pascagoula, Mississippi refinery, according to shipping data seen by Reuters last Tuesday.  According to sources quoted by Reuters, state-owned PDVSA assigned a third crude cargo to American oil company Chevron pursuant to the recently issued General License 41 that allows the latter’s joint ventures with the former to export oil to the USA. This is the third cargo in just a little more than a month since the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued the license.

UK continues to recognize 2015 AN as Venezuela's legitimate authority

The National Assembly of 2015 is still regarded by the government of the United Kingdom as "the only legitimate institution" in Venezuela, and the government of the United Kingdom reiterated this position on 12th January 2023 in order to ensure that the assets it protects on British soil will continue to be regarded as being under the control of the opposition Parliament. On the same vein, President Nicolas Maduro delivered his yearly speech to the National Assembly (AN) of 2020 on January 12. The president harshly criticized the United Kingdom for accepting the legality of the AN of 2015 at the outset of his speech at the Federal Legislative Palace. He further emphasized that the Venezuelan Parliament chosen in 2020 is the only one with legal standing.

ConocoPhillips in talks to agree on a deal that allows it to sell Venezuelan oil in the USA

ConocoPhillips left Venezuela in 2007 after its assets were nationalized. As a means of recovering the close to USD 10bn owed by Venezuela, the company is now open to a deal to sell the country's oil in the USA. The agreement would help Venezuela end its economic isolation resulting from sanctions. It would also assist the USA in meeting its energy needs. Oil-and-gas companies are investigating Venezuelan business opportunities and negotiating with PDVSA. According to sources quoted by the Wall Street Journal, some companies are requesting authorization from the USA State and Treasury departments to negotiate. Repsol and Eni of Italy are among those seeking expansion permission in Venezuela.

Argentina Debt Is Star Bet for Hedge Fund Emso as Politics Shift

Emso Asset Management is betting on Argentina, one of the most renowned defaulters in the world, to make a comeback in debt due to the possibility of a market-friendly election outcome this year. It depends on President Alberto Fernandez's resignation, whose economic policies have caused the country's inflation to soar to a three-decade high of 95%. According to Patrick Esteruelas of Emso, new leadership would trigger a recovery in Argentina's distressed dollar debt, rewarding Wall Street's bravest.
