Latin America’s left raises pressure on Venezuela’s Guaidó at OAS summit

At a diplomatic meeting on Thursday, a group of leftist Latin American countries increased pressure on the head of the Venezuelan opposition, Juan Guaidó, despite their failure to adopt a resolution to debate his expulsion from the group. 19 of the required 24 countries—Mexico, Peru, Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Dominica, Granada, and Honduras—voted in favour of adding the topic to the agenda. Nicaragua voted no, Paraguay, Canada, the United States, and Guatemala abstained, while Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Salvador, Guyana, and Haiti did not participate in the vote.

Caracas Stock Market to launch alternative market for funds (follow up from next week)

The opening of an alternative market for investment money was announced by Gustavo Pulido, president of the Caracas Stock Exchange, in an exclusive interview. AlAlza Inversiones, Fivenca Fondo de Capital Privado, Pivca Promotora de Inversiones y Valores, Impulsa Agronegocios, and Finagro Fondo Agropecuario will be the first five businesses to enter the Venezuelan market. It's unclear what Pulido means when he talks about an "alternative market," but it might imply that the BVC would have a system for purchasing mutual funds, which, unlike shares, are sold at the conclusion of the trading day in established capital markets. Investment funds make it easier to access capital markets and have the potential to grow the market's size over time, making their inclusion in Venezuela's underdeveloped stock market an important step.

According to court documents, a decision on the final auction timetable might be made shortly. Citgo Petroleum, owned by Venezuela and the seventh-largest oil refiner in the United States by capacity, may be forced to be split up. The sale of shares in Citgo's parent company was given last year's approval by U.S. District Judge Leonard P. Stark to pay Canadian miner Crystallex $970 million that was due as a result of an expropriation decision for its holdings in Venezuela.

Venezuela's Maduro won't rule out early elections
